Beekeeping Update November 2017
0 Comment
Just shutting the bees up for winter. Removed the last of the liquid feeders over the hives. These have been kept warm by blankets of bubblewrap and polystyrene. Now they have some solid sugar feed in the form of fondant, which I usually make myself. This is easier for the bees to digest as they don’t have to spend energy reducing the liquid. I attach mouse excluders to each entrance, and have a nice double glazing trick. I have a lot of spare WBC lifts (the outers which slot over the fragile WBC brood and super boxes). These snugly fit over a National Hive and give the bees some extra warmth over the winter.
